ENGLAND'S BEST B&B IS A FORMER PIG BARN JUST AN HOUR OUTSIDE LONDON
Piglets is an old Tithe Barn and boasts an infra-red sauna, natural swimming pond and gym
A former tithe barn in north Essex has been named B&B and Guest House of the Year in the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence.
Piglets, between the villages of Wimbish and Upper Green, near Saffron Walden, was once a home for... yep, you guessed it: Pigs.
But it's had a fair old makeover since then, with the barn being converted into five luxurious, en-suite rooms, a games room, mini gym and even an infra-red sauna. And outside, the wooden decking leads straight to a beautiful natural swimming pond, which is unheated for all you wannabe Wim Hofs (but reaches a pleasant 25 degrees with the help of a little summer sunshine).
Food at Piglets is locally sourced and they describe their cooked-to-order breakfast service as purposefully "slow paced and gentle," to help you ease into a relaxing day.
Piglets owners, Max and Chrissie, decided to open the B&B after 40 years running a successful games business. Having travelled the world and stayed in many hotels, Max decided to open the B&B he would have wanted.
Rooms at Piglets range from £190 - £235 per night, with two night minimum stays at weekends. If you're in the area, why not check out the brilliant Audley End House with its miniature railway? It's just a 10 minute drive away and comes with a Time Well Spent stamp of approval.
